The forest is like that, I think.
This one was not so hard to find. I simply followed the cool mountain mist that one day curled around my ankles while I was sipping my morning tea. My footfalls softened as I left the stone corridors of the Archives behind. The familiar creaks and groans gave way to a hushed landscape where sound was nothing more than the rustle of leaves and the distant calling of birds (and that one busy woodpecker hammering away in intervals).
The warmth of the Archives faded into a crisp alpine fog, the kind that soaks your hems, and you can almost taste the moisture. Boughs of hulking willows trailed low over a mossy path. I followed it further, up and through. High in the mountains, surrounded by ancient trees, damp foliage, and mossy stone, I stood still, feeling like a part of it all.
The name of this place required no poetry; I knew immediately what to call it. When I can find the way, or when the mist comes to remind me, Northern Forests is where I go to take a fresh, deep breath before returning to my work.
I hope to see you among those ancient trees sometime, taking a breath for yourself.
