Lorekeeper's Journal #5: Dreams of a drowned city

Lorekeeper's Journal #5: Dreams of a drowned city

I had been dreaming of an ocean, black all around, salt water on my clothes and on my tongue.

It wasn’t a frightening dream. I felt no danger, no aggressive pull of the undertow. I simply floated, letting the current draw me in.

It reminded me of the Archives, in a way. I allow it to guide me toward whatever awaits discovery. So when I awoke to the sound of dripping water, I followed it with excitable curiosity. (Puddles in the Archives are not usually a good thing, but when they lead me to lost civilizations, well... I can forgive the metaphorical wet socks.)

A new corridor had opened off the main stacks. Even with my lantern, the light barely reached the edges. Still, I felt that same gentle pull, like a tide, and pressed forward. Water trickled in thin streams down the stone from no discernible source. The air smelled like a rich blend of deep ocean, musky cloves, and the faintest shadow of a bright citrus mist.

At the end of the corridor, I descended steps into a chilly, placid subterranean pool. As I submerged, I saw it, softly lit by the glow of countless jellyfish and luminous algae. If I weren't holding my breath, I might have gasped.

The aged, elegant ruins of a long-lost city stretched along the sea floor below me. Atlantis. I saw huge white pillars, ornate archways, intricately carved domes, and twisting staircases connecting rooms and terraces that looked like they could be an extension of the Archives itself (could it possibly?).

It was only a glimpse before the light faded and the scene vanished, reminding me to resurface for air. I went back under, but there was only the inky blackness and brackishness of seawater. When I returned to the main stacks dripping wet, the corridor had sealed behind me, but the scent on me lingers - a rich reminder of the wonders I saw in those oceanic depths.

Perhaps one day, I’ll find my way back, and I’ll swim down to see what relics remain.
My heart flutters with anticipation just thinking of it!

Until then, I’ll keep following the current.

With light,
–K

Atlantis is our homage to the depths - a musky, layered scent that demands discovery. While the stories of the lost city ignite wonder, this scent embodies the mysteries of the sea, transcending genres and cultures, fiction and nonfiction, and all blurs the lines between the two.

Atlantis is available in wax melts, an 8oz travel tin, a three-wick 16oz glass jar, and scent spray.

Emberlight Archives is a candle and fragrance brand for lovers of fantasy, folklore, myth, magic, & mystery. But let's play pretend (otherwise, where's the fun?) - it's a collection of scent-based artifacts drawn from imagined realms and hidden histories. Each product tells a story and invites a unique ambience. Each collection reveals a new corridor - and there's so much more to unlock.

If you're a reader, gamer, fragrance lover, story fanatic, or seeker of the strange and beautiful, you'll feel right at home in the Archives. We're glad you found us.
